It provides six isolated safety-certified digital inputs (24 V DC)​ designed for connection to emergency stop buttons, safety mats, light curtains, and safety interlock switches. The module is intended for use with S7-300F (Fail-Safe) CPUs​ and supports evaluation up to Category 4 / SIL 3 / PL e​ per EN ISO 13849-1 and IEC 61508.

  • Direct S7-300F Compatibility:​ Works exclusively with CPU 315F-2 DP/PNG, CPU 317F-2 PN/DP​ and similar F-CPUs — not usable in standard (non-failsafe) S7-300 racks for safety functions.
  • Flexible Wiring:​ Accepts standard 1× / 2× wiring per IEC 61131-2 Type 1 sensors (NPN sourcing to 0V / PNP sinking to 24V — wiring diagram in manual).
  • Diagnostics & LED Indication:​ Per-channel status LEDs + module-level SF (System Fault) and F (Failsafe Active) LEDs simplify troubleshooting.

Applications

  • Emergency Stop & Guard Monitoring:​ Reading E-STOP N/C contacts and safety gate interlock N/C contacts into the safety program.
  • Safety Light Curtain / Mat Integration:​ Connecting OSSD outputs from light curtains or safety mats to the F-DI module.
  • Process Safety Instrumented Functions (SIF):​ Bringing field-mounted safety sensors (vibration, overtravel, temperature trip) into the SIL 3-rated safety logic.
