Product Description
The KFD2-SH-EX1.T is a DIN-rail mounted, intrinsically safe interface barrier (also commonly known as a galvanic isolator or signal conditioner) manufactured by Pepperl+Fuchs. Its primary purpose is to ensure safety in hazardous areas by limiting the energy (voltage and current) that can reach potentially explosive atmospheres.It is designed to protect temperature sensors, specifically Resistance Temperature Detectors (RTDs), connected to the hazardous area.

- Application: Interfaces and protects 2-wire, 3-wire, or 4-wire RTD sensors (e.g., Pt100, Pt500, Pt1000, Ni100, Cu10) located in hazardous areas.
- Safety Certification: Certified according to ATEX, IECEx, and UKCA standards for intrinsic safety (Ex i). It allows connection of equipment from Zone 0/Division 1 to the safe area (Zone 2/Division 2 or non-hazardous area).
- Signal Processing: Converts the resistance value of the RTD into a standardized, linearized 4...20 mA output signal. This analog signal is proportional to the measured temperature and is suitable for connection to control systems, PLCs, or indicators in the safe area.
- Input/Output Isolation: Provides galvanic isolation (typically 1500 V AC) between the input circuit (hazardous area sensor side), the output circuit (safe area control system side), and the power supply. This prevents ground loops, protects connected equipment from voltage transients, and eliminates noise.
