Important Technical Notes

  1. Three Power Supplies Required:​ The 5082 typically requires three separate 24V DC supplies: one IS supply​ for the field transmitters, one standard supply​ for the module's internal electronics, and separate, isolated 24V DC supplies for each output loop. These can sometimes be combined if the supplies are isolated and rated correctly.

  2. Input is Passive:​ In current input​ mode, the 5082 provides a passive input (sinking). A separate IS 24V supply is required to power a 2-wire transmitter​ in the hazardous area.

  3. Output is Active:​ The 4-20mA output is an active, sourcing output. It requires an external 24V DC power supply to form the output loop.

  4. Complete Channel Isolation:​ The two input channels are galvanically isolated from each other. This allows connecting signals with different ground potentials.

  5. Burnout Detection:​ Only functions in current input​ mode. It detects an open circuit in the input current loop.

  6. mV Input Sensitivity:​ For 0-20mV ranges, use shielded, twisted pair cable​ and ground the shield at the 5082 end only to prevent noise pickup.

  7. Per-Channel Configuration:​ Each channel is configured independently. Ensure DIP switches match the connected field device's output signal.
